Lily’s fifer sets up 9-wicket win for Barisal

Barisal Division’s Lily Rani Biswas starred in their nine-wicket victory over Sylhet Division in the Women’s National Cricket League 2022 as the right-arm medium picked up the first fifer of the tournament, returning with figures of 5-18 as she was adjudged the player of the match.

Sylhet were bundled out for 71 after being put into bat, courtesy of Lily’s five wickets, Fuara Akter, and Rabeya Khan’s two wickets each.

In reply, Barisal cruised to victory as Nigar Sultana Joty and Sharmin Supta put together a 72-run stand to take Barisal home. Nigar continued her good run as she scored 42 off 43 balls, while Supta managed 28 off 41. 

Dhaka Division opener Fargana Haque scored a steady fifty to guide her team to their first win of the tournament against Khulna Division in a six-wicket victory at the Sylhet Academy Ground on Saturday.

The right-handed batter, who was adjudged the player of the match, remained unbeaten on 54 runs off 59 balls as she hit three fours and one six in her innings.

Khulna Division could only manage 89-4 after being put into bat, but they made the meagre total defendable as they pushed Dhaka to the brink.

In the second match at the same venue, Mymensingh Division clinched their first victory of the tournament by five wickets against Chattogram Division.

Mymensingh restricted Chattogram to 89-9, courtesy of pacers Jahanara Alam and Shanjida Akhter Maghla whom each scalped two wickets conceding 16 and 10 runs respectively.

In reply, Mymensingh managed to get over the line with seven balls in hand as middle-order batter Sharmin Sultana scored an unbeaten 27, and player of the match Jahanara chipped in with 15 to push her team across the finish line.

Chattogram’s Shorna Akhter picked up three wickets for 23 runs, but it wasn’t enough to restrict Mymensingh.

At the Sylhet International Cricket Stadium, Rangpur Division made it two in two as they won against Rajshahi Division by 39 runs.

Batting first, Rangpur posted 123-3. Opener Sathi Rani scored 31 off 36 deliveries, and number three Unnoti Akter propelled the innings as she scored 44 off 38 balls, including five fours before Sathira Jakir Jesy came in for a cameo of 22 runs in 18 balls to get 123 on the board.

Rajshahi Division were skittled out for 84, courtesy of Tithi Rani Sarker, who was adjudged the player of the match., for her figures of 3-10. Fariha Trishna and Jesy scalped two wickets each.
