Chameera out with calf injury

Sri Lankan pacer Dushmantha Chameera has been ruled out of the upcoming Asia Cup with a calf injury.

The pacer, who was named in the initial 18-man squad, was injured 3-4 days ago.

Chameera was previously struggling with an ankle injury but was still named in the squad despite uncertainty regarding his recovery.

Now, he has injured his calf but is likely to be fit for the T20 World Cup later this year.

The speedster, who has 48 wickets in Twenty20 Internationals, was the spearhead of Sri Lanka’s pace attack and now they are left with a bunch of inexperienced young pacers.

Sri Lanka will now look at their spinners for success in UAE, including the likes of Wanindu Hasaranga and Maheesh Theekshana, Praveen Jayawickrama, and Jeffrey Vandersay.

Sri Lanka will start their Asia Cup campaign against Afghanistan on August 27 and will face Bangladesh on August 30.
