Bangladesh national cricket team head coach will not travel with the team to the upcoming Asia Cup as he has been relieved of the charge of Twenty20 Internationals.
BCB president Nazmul Hassan said on Monday that Domingo will look after the players for the upcoming Test series against India after the T20 World Cup, while the newly-appointed technical consultant, Sridharan Sriram, will take charge of the T20 team till the global event in Australia.
Till the T20 World Cup, Bangladesh will only play T20Is. Domingo will work on making a plan for the matches of the upcoming Future Tours Programme, and also watch domestic cricket to check out the players.
“We have already informed you that we have taken Sriram Sridharan as T20’s technical consultant. We have discussed our plans with Russell Domingo, who is going to give us a plan over the next three weeks. He was eager to see the NCL and the A team matches to see our prospects and those who are not on the national team,” Nazmul told the media at Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Monday.
The BCB president also assured they were not severing ties with Domingo.
Regarding the South African’s future, Nazmul said, ‘’Russell Domingo won’t be a part of the T20 setup. He will be with ODIs and Tests.’’
Surprisingly, Domingo isn’t unhappy with the situation.
“I think it’s a great idea. It gives me a nice focus on the Test and 50-over stuff. We have had some great results and bad results in the T20s. I don’t think it is a bad idea to make a fresh approach to T20s. I am very open-minded about it,” said Domingo.
