Dravid tests Covid positive

Head coach of the Indian cricket team, Raul Dravid tested positive for Covid-19 on Tuesday and will not travel with the team scheduled to arrive on the same day in the UAE for the Asia Cup 2022 starting on August 27.

Dravid is facing mild symptoms and is set to be tested again in two days. In the meantime, the bowling coach of India, Paras Mhambrey, will step in and take charge of the team. Dravid will however return after he tests negative.

VVS Laxman, who came in as the interim coach for the recently concluded Zimbabwe series, will likely be called upon but it will depend on Dravid’s test results.

“Team India Head Coach Rahul Dravid has tested positive for COVID-19 in a routine test conducted ahead of the team’s departure to the UAE for Asia Cup 2022. Mr Dravid is under the supervision of the BCCI Medical team and has mild symptoms. He will join the team once he returns with a negative COVID-19 report. The rest of the team will assemble in UAE on 23rd August 2022,” a BCCI release on Tuesday.

India will take on archrival Pakistan in their opening fixture in the Asia Cup 2022 on August 28.
