Hosts UAE beat Singapore

Hosts UAE won their first match by 47 runs in the Asia Cup 2022 qualifiers against Singapore at the Al Amerat Cricket Ground Oman Cricket in Oman on Monday.

UAE were put into bat and the hosts managed to put 160-8, courtesy of opener Muhammad Waseem’s fifty and Basil Hameed’s quickfire 38. Waseem got his team off to a flying start and scored 58 runs off 34 balls, including three fours and five sixes before falling to Janak Prakash, while Hameed scored 38 off 28 runs as he hit two sixes.

Pacer Prakash scalped three wickets for 35 runs.

In reply, all Singapore batsmen other than Aritra Dutta failed to have a go at the 160 total as they were bundled out for 113. Dutta scored 42 runs off 29 balls, in which he hit four sixes and one four, while no other batsmen could reach 20 runs.

UAE leg-spinner Karthik Meiyappan, who took three wickets for 13 runs, was adjudged the player of the match.
