Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan is in hopes that a new team will be crowned champion in the upcoming edition of the Asia Cup.
Shakib was appointed new captain a few days before the team left for the Asia Cup, and the Tigers will rely heavily on their skipper to find success.
The all-rounder himself is hoping to reach the final and see a new team lift the trophy.
“If we reach the final, any team will do as opponents. Hopefully, a new team will be crowned champions. India, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka have won several times,” he said in a program of Bangla Tigers, whom he joined on Thursday.
Bangladesh will play their first match of the tournament on August 30 against Afghanistan and Shakib understands the importance of a good start.
“We are trying our best to be ready for the Asia Cup. In these tournaments, it is important to find your rhythm early. That’s why the first match is important. We are eager to win the first match. If that happens, everything forward will hopefully be positive,” the Bangladesh skipper said.
