Murshedy steps down from league committee

Senior vice-president of Bangladesh Football Federation, Abdus Salam Murshedy, stepped down from his role as the Chairman of the Professional League Committee on Saturday.

The former Bangladesh national team footballer announced his decision at a press briefing citing workloads from his business and political life. He held the position since the inception of the committee in 2008.

“I will be busy with political work. I asked the board president to curb my responsibilities. I told him that I have to stay at my constituency on a regular basis. I told him that I don’t have the time to run the league committee. He (Kazi Salahuddin) said that would consider it and decide upon discussions,” he said on Saturday.

“From today onwards, I will not be in charge. The rest is up to the board,” he added.

The 58-year-old, however, will remain the VP of BFF and will continue to serve as the Chairman of Finance as well as the Referee’s Committee.

Murshedy is currently a member of the parliament of Khulna-4, a position he has been holding since 2018, and previously served as the President of Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA).

In the upcoming days, Murshedy revealed that he intends to allocate more of his time to politics and would not be able to focus on footballing activities.
