Bangladesh national women’s football team are currently in Kathmandu, Nepal to take part in the SAFF Women’s Championship 2022, where they will take on Maldives in their opening fixture at the Dasarath Stadium in Kathmandu on Wednesday.
Ahead of their match, Bangladesh captain Sabina Khatun confidently promised about playing organised football in the tournament.
Bangladesh’s best finish in the tournament came in 2016, where they were bettered 3-1 in the final by India.
Sabina said her team was raring to go as she promised that a different Bangladesh would be on display.
“We respect all the teams here. We are ready to play, we are ready to fight.
“Our position has changed. The women’s football scenery of 2016 will very soon be washed away from people’s minds. You won’t see that anymore,” she said on Monday. “People of Bangladesh see that the girls play organised football and they enjoy that. I think it’s definitely positive for us.”
Bangladesh head coach Golam Rabbani believes that his team is improving as he promised a better showing than they produced last time around in 2019 in Biratnagar.
“My team is gradually improving. Our target is to take it match by match. The first match against Maldives is very important,” he said.
