Bangladesh national cricket team will play a two-match Twenty20 International series against United Arab Emirates later this month as part of their World Cup preparations.
They will also have a training camp there from September 22 to 28.
The series was confirmed on Thursday through a press release from the Emirates Cricket Board.
The matches will be played at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on September 25 and 27.
Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO, Nizamuddin Chowdhury, said that they were delighted to arrange the series with UAE.
“This tour will be an important part of the Bangladesh team’s lead-up to the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in Australia. The UAE side has made impressive progress in recent times, and we are all looking forward to a competitive and exciting series. This will provide valuable game exposure and ensure quality preparations for both nations,” he said in a press release from ECB.
BCB had earlier arranged a three-day camp at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium under technical consultant Sridharan Sriram to prepare for their tri-nation series in New Zealand and the World Cup, but it was ruined due to inclement weather.
The Tigers will leave for the UAE on September 22, BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury informed.
Bangladesh vice-captain Nurul Hasan Sohan said that these matches would help, despite being against a lower-ranked team.
“Whoever you play against, you gain an experience. You cannot underestimate any team in T20s. I think this is a very good opportunity to play matches before the World Cup,” he said.
Bangladesh are likely to leave for New Zealand on October 1, where they will take on the hosts and Pakistan for a tri-nation series. Bangladesh’s first match there will be on October 7 against Pakistan at Christchurch.
