Jahanara, Fargana ruled out of T20 WC Qualifiers
Jahanara Alam & Fargana Hoque

Bangladesh women’s national team suffered a double blow on Friday as all-rounder Jahanara Alam and batter Fargana Hoque Pinky were ruled out of their upcoming ICC T20 World Cup 2023 Qualifiers in UAE.

Jahanara was ruled out due to a hand injury sustained during practice, while Fargana tested positive for Covid-19.

Bangladesh Cricket Board informed through a press release that the pace-bowling all-rounder Jahanara needed two stitches on her right hand due to the injury, and will be replaced by pacer Fariha Islam Trisna.

Meanwhile, batter Fargana tested positive for Covid and is being treated as per the medical protocol for the event. Shohaly Akhter, who last played for the national team in 2014, has been named as her replacement in the team.

Both replacements will join the team in UAE today (September 17).

Bangladesh, who are in group A, start their campaign on the opening day with a match against Ireland on 18 September. Then, they will face Scotland on the following day, before taking on USA on September 21.

The top two teams from each group will go through to the semi-finals, and the winners will meet in the final. Both finalists will qualify for the T20 World Cup in South Africa next year.
