Bangladesh thrash UAE in practice game

Bangladesh national women’s team were off to a good start in their preparations leading up to the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2023 Qualifiers as they convincingly beat UAE by 54 runs in their only practice match.

Bangladesh will face Ireland in their first match of the Qualifiers today (Sunday).

Batting first, Bangladesh posted 124-5 in their 20 overs. Lata Mandal then wreaked havoc with the ball as she picked up five wickets to ensure that UAE did not get more than 70 in their innings.

Bangladesh skipper Nigar Sultana Joty won the toss and opted to bat first, but they were dealt a blow early as opener Shamima Sultana (1) was run out in the second over.

From there, Nigar and Murshida Khatun put together a 56-run stand to steady the ship, before Murshida was gone for 32 off 28 deliveries, hitting four fours.

Sobhana Mostary’s 39 off 32 deliveries ensured that they went past 120, with help from Ritu Moni (13).

In reply, UAE had a good start as their openers, Theertha Satish and Esha Oza put together 37 for the opening stand. From there on, UAE fell like a house of cards.

From there on, it was the Lata show. She dismissed Kavisha Egodage (11), Chaya Mughal (2), Natasha Cherriath (3), Vaishnave Mahesh (1), and Rinitha Rajith (0) to pick up her five-wicket haul.
