Bangladesh A’s series vs Afghans called off

Bangladesh A team’s series against Afghanistan A has been called off after the Afghanistan Cricket Board asked to reschedule the tie, a Bangladesh Cricket Board official informed on Sunday.

Bangladesh A were supposed to face Afghanistan A for two four-day matches and five One-Day matches in the UAE in October.

But BCB CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury revealed that ACB asked to reschedule the series, leading to the tour being called off.

“We had a proposal from the Afghanistan Cricket Board for a series for Bangladesh A team in October in UAE. But ACB recently informed us that they wanted to reschedule. So, we have to take these fixtures to some other time. We are trying to arrange a longer-version series with any other team as we have the slot free,” the CEO told the media on Sunday.

Chowdhury refused to disclose the reasons behind ACB asking to reschedule the series.

“Boards have various internal matters. The most important thing is that ACB arrange series outside their country, so they may have various logistical issues. So, we cannot say what the reason is. They just told us they wanted to reschedule,” he said.

While the A team’s series in UAE now lingers on a thread, the national team will travel to the gulf country for a two-match Twenty20 International series against the hosts as part of their T20 World Cup preparations.

But skipper Shakib Al Hasan will not travel with the team as he is on leave.

“We have given him the NOC (No-Objection Certificate) to play in a foreign league (Caribbean Premier League). As it was a sudden decision to arrange the UAE tour, his involvement is up to the team management,” the BCB CEO said.
