Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan finally came to the party in the Caribbean Premier League as he produced a player-of-the-match performance for the Guyana Amazon Warriors at the Providence Stadium to beat the Trinbago Knight Riders on Sunday.
The ace all-rounder delivered a complete performance with bat and ball as Guyana won by 37 runs to reach second place in the points table, while Barbados Royals sit top.
After back-to-back golden ducks, Shakib, coming in at four, scored 35 runs off 25 deliveries at a strike rate of 140, including four boundaries and a maximum. The left-hander was involved in a 60-run stand with Afghan opener Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who smashed 60 runs off 42 balls, hitting six sixes.
Quickfire knocks of 23 off 14 balls and 22 off seven deliveries from skipper Shimron Hetmyer and Odean Smith finished the innings on a high as Guyana posted 173-6 after being put into bat.
With the ball, Shakib, who took three wickets in his first two matches, was the pick of the bowlers, taking three wickets for 20 runs. His dismissals included Tim Seifert, Andre Russel, and Sunil Narine as TKR were bundled out for 136.
To cap off the night, he sent Nicholas Pooran packing, courtesy of a direct hit from short mid-wicket as he deservedly took home the player of the match award.
