India maintained their perfect start to the 2022 Women’s Asia Cup as they beat Malaysia by 30 runs (DLS) in Sylhet on Monday.

Batting first, India managed to put 181-4 on board, courtesy of a fifty from opener Sabbhineni Meghana. In reply, Malaysia were 16-2 in 5.2 overs before the rain hit the match, and the play proceeded no further, leading to India being handed the win on the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern method.

Malaysia skipper Winifred Duraisingam won the toss and opted to field first. But the decision proved to be wrong as Meghana and Shafali Verma put together 113 runs for the opening stand in 13.5 overs.

Meghana was out in the 14th over for 69 when Duraisingam got her, but a quickfire 33 runs off 19 deliveries from Richa Ghosh took the Indians to 181-4. Shafali scored 46 off 39 deliveries before being dismissed in the 19th over.

In reply, Malaysia lost Duraisingam in the first over as Deepti Sharma trapped her LBW. In the fourth over, Wan Julia was trapped LBW by Rajeshwari Gayakwad to reduce Malaysia to 6-2.

From there, Mas Elysa and Elsa Hunter took Malaysia to 16-2, but then the rain hit, and they were 30 runs behind the par score, leading to the result heading towards India’s favour.
