The 2022-23 season of the National Cricket League began on Monday and was marred by poor batting efforts as the first innings concluded in three out of four matches.
Rangpur were bowled out for 92, while Chattogram for 141, and Khulna could manage only 131. The only team finishing the day without bowling was Barishal as they scored 269-9 against Rajshahi.
At the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium, Rangpur were taken by storm by Dhaka pacer Sumon Khan as he picked up five wickets to bowl Rangpur out for 92. Ariful Haque top-scored for Rangpur with 34.
In reply, Dhaka lost both their openers Abdul Mazid (7) and Rony Talukder (0) early, but a 37-run stand between Mahidul Islam Ankon and Raqibul Hasan helped them back in the game. By the end of the day, skipper Taibur Rahman stayed unbeaten on 30 to take his team to 122-5, with a lead of 30 runs.
In Chattogram, Sylhet’s left-arm spinner Nabil Samad wreaked havoc as he picked up five wickets to bowl Chattogram out for 141. Tamim Iqbal top-scored with 31. In reply, Sylhet ended the day on 15-0.
In Khulna, Dhaka Metropolis’ Manik Khan picked up four wickets to bowl Khulna out for 131. Nahidul Islam top-scored for Khulna with 42, while Amit Majumder scored 35.
In reply, Dhaka Metro were also in trouble as they lost three wickets to score 37. Shamsur Rahman and Aminul Islam were unbeaten at the end on 20 and 7 respectively.
In Rajshahi, fifties from Sohag Gazi and Abu Sayeem helped Barishal post 269-9 by the end of the day’s play. Tanvir Islam was unbeaten on 43.
For Rajshahi, Nahid Rana picked up four wickets, while Sunzamul Islam picked up a couple.
