Bangladesh suffered their first defeat of the SAFF U-15 Women’s Championship in their second match at Bir Shrestha Shaheed Shipahi Mustofa Kamal Stadium in Dhaka on Saturday as they lost 1-0 to Nepal.

Barsha Oli scored the decider for Nepal in the 87th minute.

The match was a deadlock for both teams as none of the teams could dominate the other. Nepal’s defence line stopped every goal attempt from Golam Rabbani Choton’s team.

Following their win, Nepal remain the only side to win both their games and are yet to concede a goal in the tournament.

The goal came after Bangladesh defender Arpita Biswas Arpita handled the ball trying to defend a Nepalese counter-attack. Nepal took their chance in the set piece as Simran Rai sent a beautiful ball into the Bangladesh box and Barsha did no mistake and needed only one touch to net the ball.

The Nepal forward scored four goals in their previous match against Bhutan, and with the winner against Bangladesh, she currently tops the goal-scoring chart of the tournament.

With only a few minutes left Bangladesh tried to settle the score and were constantly looking to attack the Nepalese goal. But all their efforts went in vain as the referee blew the final whistle before they could put together a meaningful attack.

With this win, Nepal replaced Bangladesh at the top of the points table with four points from two wins in two matches. Bangladesh currently sit second with two points from a win and a defeat.

Bangladesh will face Bhutan, whom they had thrashed 8-0 in the opening game of the tournament, on Monday at the same venue at 4:30 PM.
