Great decision by TV umpire: Mushfiq

The decision that led to Shakib Al Hasan’s dismissal in Bangladesh’s must-win game against Pakistan on Sunday led to Mushfiqur Rahim protesting the decision on Twitter.

Shakib was given LBW off Shadab Khan’s bowling, but replays showed that the ball was really close to the bat and there was also a spike in ultraedge.

But yet, the third umpire Langton Rusere gave the verdict that it was Shakib’s bat hitting the ground making the noise, rather than the ball hitting the bat, despite a clear gap being seen between Shakib’s bat and the ground.

Bangladesh went on to crumble following the decision, which led to their five-wicket defeat and crashing out of the World Cup.

Following the decision, Mushfiq, who retired from the shortest international format earlier this year, took to Twitter to protest in a sarcastic manner.

“Great decision by the tv umpire,” he wrote, followed by five emojis which imply an ironic attempt at positivity when things are grim, according to Dictionary.com.

Mushfiq was not the only one to protest as former Indian cricketer and analyst Aakash Chopra also took to Twitter to react to the decision.

“Shakib’s bat didn’t touch the ground at all. Just focus on the bat’s shadow. There was a spike. It couldn’t have been anything else except the ball hitting the bat. Bangladesh at the receiving end of a poor umpiring decision,” he wrote on Twitter.

After the first innings, Pakistan leg-spinner Shadab, who took Shakib’s wicket, said, “Umpire gave it out, so it’s out.”
