English batter Dawid Malan, who is currently camping at Comilla Victorians for the ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League, credited his time in Bangladesh for his ability to handle spin better than most English batters.
Malan has a long story with Bangladesh as he has played several editions of BPL, and he took part in the Dhaka Premier League as well for Prime Doleshwar.
The 35-year-old said that his playing days in Bangladesh helped him become a better batter and a better player of spin.
“It (BPL) is one of the tournaments that I first played in. It gave me a stepping stone; it helped me learn my cricket. Not just BPL, DPL too. Those tournaments helped me develop my game. Any chance I get to come to Bangladesh, I try to take that opportunity,” he told the media on Sunday.
The English batter added, “Yeah, I think definitely (playing here helped in his prowess against spin). The more you play in the sub-continent, the better. The more you learn skills. I am very big on trying to learn all the time. When you come to conditions like these, you face high-quality spinners. A lot of T20 here is bowled by spin.
“So, you have to learn to play an attacking game and I guess a conservative game as well because sometimes it’s a low-scoring wicket. And when it’s a high-scoring game, you have to have a game to attack. I guess you learn different ways to go about playing spin.”
