Hridoy goes back to back

Batter Towhid Hridoy ensured Sylhet Strikers took their consecutive winning count to three for a perfect start in the BPL 2023 as he scored another fifty against Comilla Victorians to lead his side to a successful run chase at The Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Monday.

Hridoy scored 56 off just 37 balls, hitting three fours and four sixes in the process. This is his second half century in this edition of the BPL.

The batter had scored another important half ton to chase down Fortune Barishal’s 194 in the second matchday. In that innings he scored 55 off just 34 balls, with a strike rate of 161.76.

Winning the toss, Sylhet Strikers skipper Mashrafe Mortaza sent Comilla Victorians to bat first where they set a target of 150 for the Strikers. Coming to chase Strikers lost early wicket of opener Mohammad Haris. Hridoy, coming to the pitch in at three, showed his class and made an impact in the match to set a foundation for his team to chase down the target before departing in the 10th over.

The 22-year-old has made his intentions clear as his performances are overshadowing high profile overseas players, scoring back-to-back half tons with impressive strike rate of above 150. He was awarded the man of the match for his impactful innings. It was his second consecutive man of the match performance for the Strikers.

Following Hridoy’s blistering innings, Strikers won the match by five wickets with more than two overs to spare with Mushfiqur Rahim scoring 28 and Zakir Hasan scoring a quick 20.

It is thanks to Hridoy that Strikers now top the table with six points from three wins in their opening three matches. They can now go clear the Dhaka round if they can win against Dhaka Dominators on Tuesday before the tournament shifts to Chattogram.
