Comilla seeks first win as they face Challengers

Comilla Victorians will be looking for their first win in the Bangladesh Premier League 2023 as they face the hosts Chattogram Challengers in their fourth match of the tournament at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Monday.

Victorians have played three matches in the tournament so far and have failed to secure a win to their name for which they are at the bottom of the points table with no points earned having a -1.123 net run rate, the lowest in the tournament.

The Challengers on the other hand, have played four games with two wins and two losses. The Challengers are in the fourth position of the table with four points.

In the Dhaka phase, Challengers lost their first match of the tournament against the Sylhet Strikers but fought back against Khulna Tigers.

They lost their first game playing as the hosts against Shakib Al Hasan led Fortune Barishal as well but the Challengers were able to come back against Dhaka Dominators where they dominated the opposition to secure an eight-wicket victory where their batter Afif played a brilliant innings. Victorians on the contrary, need to win this match for still being in the competition for the play-offs.

The hosts want to keep the winning run ongoing as they face struggling side of Imrul Kayes. Chattogram Challengers head coach Julian Wood said on Thursday, “T20s have become a power game these days, it’s good that they call me power hitting coach. I’m a batting coach, it’s true that I’m specialized in power hitting.”

He said, “last time when I was in Sylhet, I worked with Anamul Haque, now I’m working with Afif, if you look at these players, they are not physically big. Strong players can power their muscles but for the players like Afif, they need use movement, rhythm and timing.

“They have to understand how their body works when they hit the balls. I’m trying, we have scheduled some specialized drills and trainings,” he added.
