Khushdil Shah starred with the bat on Thursday as his brilliant innings of 64 from 24 balls allowed Comilla to post a winning total and find their third win in a row.
Khushdil hit seven fours and five sixes, meaning he scored 58 runs off just 12 balls, which helped Comilla score 81 runs in the final five overs.
He came into the crease in the 14th over but waited for a little before unleashing as being a left-handed batter, he took on left-arm spinner Amir Hamza in the 16th over.
In one over, Khushdil hit three sixes and two fours to ensure that the momentum shifted towards Comilla as that over produced 29 runs.
In the next over, Khushdil took on all-rounder Muktar Ali as he hit two sixes and a four, before smashing Mohammad Imran Randhawa for another four in the 18th over to reach his fifty off just 18 balls. After reaching fifty, he smashed Imran for two more fours in the same over. He hit Soumya Sarkar for another four in the penultimate over, before getting dismissed in the next delivery.
But by then, the damage was done, and Comilla were near a great total.
After the match, Comilla head coach Mohammad Salahuddin accepted that playing Khushdil lower down the order so far was his mistake.
“We reached a good position because of him (Khushdil). He targeted the right bowler. We got the momentum then. I think I misjudged him as I did not play him up top after he could not do well in Mirpur. I hadn’t seen him much.
“It was my mistake that I did not play him up the order. But after coming to Chattogram, I saw that he was hitting the ball really well. That is why we played him up the order and we will keep doing so as we are getting results,” he said.
