Najmul wants decent criticism

Sylhet Strikers batter Najmul Hossain Shanto played a vital knock on Tuesday as the batter scored an unbeaten 89 runs off 66 balls, hitting 11 fours and a six, which held their innings together and took them to 173-5, a score which ended up being barely enough as they won by two runs against Fortune Barishal.

His innings was in the mould of his T20 career thus far as the batter scored his first 48 runs off 47 balls and then scored their remaining 41 in just 19. Najmul’s batting template, throughout his career, has shown that he likes to settle in steadily and then accelerate once he achieves a significant base.

But that has not sat down well with the fanbase as they have heavily criticised the left-handed batter for his approach. But that criticism has often crossed the boundaries of decency, as per Najmul.

“I am not saying that you cannot criticise me. If I don’t play well, there will definitely be criticism. But I think it can be in a bit more decent manner, which would have been better for my family. That’s it,” he said after the match.

Najmul explained that these incidents on social media have frustrated him because they affected his family.

“The things that happen on social media are more difficult for my family than it is for me. I understand things in a way which my family doesn’t, leading to them being hurt. These have frustrated me. I also felt bad,” he said.

But Najmul has been regularly scoring runs as he was Bangladesh’s leading run-scorer in the T20 World Cup 2022 and has also been consistent for Sylhet, which might change things up regarding his social media tribulation.

“I don’t know if the situation is changing. Everybody says it from their personal point of view. I can’t control it. And I am not worried about it changing. If it changes, then great. If it doesn’t, I can’t do anything about it,” he explained after the match.
