Mashrafe asks for respectful farewells

Mahsrafe Mortaza, the former Bangladesh national team captain and the current skipper of Bangladesh Premier League franchise Sylhet Strikers, asked for respectful goodbyes for legends of Bangladesh cricket.

The pacer said that it would set the precedent for younger players to believe that they would also achieve that upon performing.

Mashrafe resigned from One-Day International captaincy in March 2020. But he was later dropped from the national team in the next series in 2021, meaning he could not retire from the field, although he has not retired from international cricket yet.

The pacer, who has the most wickets for Bangladesh as a fast-bowler, asked to ensure farewells from the field for the aforementioned cricketers.

“Shakib, Tamim, Mushfiq, Riyad are legends of Bangladesh cricket, no doubt. So, I hope that the people have the opportunity to bid them goodbye. So that they can leave the field with proper respect. Because they have worked hard for a long time and sacrificed a lot. Nobody knows that,” he told the media on Thursday.

Mashrafe also talked about the precedent that would be set.

“If such is done, youngsters will gain the faith that they will also receive such respect from the nation,” he said.
