Hridoy, Tanvir, Raja get T20I call-up

Towhid Hridoy, Tanvir Islam, and Rejaur Rahman Raja - three starlets from the latest ninth edition of the Bangladesh Premier League got called up to the national Twenty20 International side as Bangladesh Cricket Board announced the 15-man squad for their first two Twenty20 Internationals against England later this month.

Alongside the trio, Rony Talukder returned to the national team fray after eight years, while Shamim Hossain was called back to the T20I side since Bangladesh’s series against Pakistan in November 2021.

Five players have been dropped from the T20 World Cup squad - Soumya Sarkar, Yasir Ali Chowdhury, Mosaddek Hossain, Shoriful Islam, and Ebadot Hossain.

All the three new players had great BPL campaigns as Hridoy ended the tournament as the third-highest run-scorer with 403 runs, which had also earned him a call-up to the ODI side.

Tanvir was the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 17 wickets, while Raja picked up 13. Raja had previously been called up to the national Test side but is yet to debut for the Tigers.

Rony also got back with a brilliant BPL as he ended just behind top-scorer Najmul Hossain Shanto, scoring 425 runs. Shamim had a good BPL as well, scoring 175 runs with an average of 29.16 and strike rate of 135.65.

The T20I series between Bangladesh and England will begin at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on March 9, followed by the two other matches at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on March 12 and 14.
