Bournemouth stun Liverpool

Liverpool suffered a 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, a result which appears as a shock as the Reds had beaten Manchester United 7-0 just a week ago.

Philip Billing scored the only goal of the game while Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah blasted a penalty wide.

This result once again brings forward Liverpool’s inconsistency this season as they spilt the chance to reach a Champions League spot with a win, leapfrogging Tottenham to fourth. Bournemouth, on the other hand, climbed out of the relegation zone with this win.

In the reverse fixture at Anfield, Liverpool put nine goals past Bournemouth. However, on Saturday, they couldn’t manage to put it in once.

Jurgen Klopp’s men dominated the ball from the start but Bournemouth’s counter-attack policy turned out to be fruitful as they broke the deadlock in the 28th minute.

Dango Ouattara managed to break out of the Liverpool offside trap to put in a brilliant ball for Billing, who tapped it in to hand the hosts the lead.

Liverpool had the chance to come back in the second half when Adam Smith used his hand to block a header from Diogo Jota, resulting in a penalty following a VAR review.

Salah, who scored two and assisted two against United, failed to convert the penalty as he blasted it well wide.

In the remaining time, Liverpool tried to put one in but Bournemouth stayed resolute and ended with a clean sheet.
