Abahani Ltd picked up their second win on the trot on Sunday as they beat Shinepukur Cricket Club by 10 runs (DLS method) in Narayanganj.
The other two matches of the day were abandoned as the match between Mohammedan SC and Rupganj Tigers was called off due to rain, while the clash between Gazi Group Cricketers and Dhaka Leopards could not go on due to bad light.
In Narayanganj, the match was initially curtailed to 33 overs per side due to rain. Batting first, Shinepukur managed 196-8, courtesy of Sazzadul Hoque Ripon’s 36, Khalid Hasan’s 35, and Avishek Mitra’s 33.
Left-arm spinner Tanvir Islam picked up three wickets, while Rakibul Hasan and Mohammad Saif Uddin picked up two each.
In reply, Abahani openers Anamul Haque and Naim Sheikh brought them a great start as the duo added 91 runs in 16 overs.
Anamul, after his hundred in the first match, picked up another fifty and was not out on 54 when rain interrupted the match again after the 21st over of the Abahani innings when they were on 114-1.
The match was played no more and according to the DLS method, the target for 21 overs would have been 104 runs, meaning Abahani were handed a win by 10 runs.
Tanvir was adjudged Player of the Match for his three wickets.
In Dhaka, the match between Mohammedan and Rupganj Tigers was reduced to 21 overs, and some brilliant hitting from the Tigers batters saw them notch up 222-5.
Mominul Haque played a thunderous knock of 74 runs off just 41 balls, assisted by Amandeep Khare’s 63 off 36 balls and Shamim Hossain’s 37 off 21 balls, meaning Rupganj Tigers had a huge total on board.
However, the second half of the match could not be played due to rain, and the teams shared a point.
At BKSP, Gazi Group could only manage 97-3 in their 20 overs. In reply, Leopards were set to chase the total down at 77-4 after 13.1 overs but the match could not go on further for bad light and was abandoned.
