An unbeaten century from Tamim Iqbal allowed Prime Bank Cricket Club to seal a comfortable seven-wicket win over Mohammedan SC at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Narayanganj on Friday.

Chasing 200, Tamim, who flew in from Sylhet on Thursday night after Bangladesh’s third One-Day International against Ireland, scored 109 off 156 balls to reach the target with 47 balls in hand.

Mushfiqur Rahim, who also arrived Thursday night with Tamim, scored an unbeaten 39.

This win ensured that Prime Bank extended their winning streak to four matches and they currently sit second in the points table behind defending Champions Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, who also have eight points but a better net run rate.

On Friday, Mohammedan, after being put in to bat first, had a great start as the first powerplay brought them 70 runs with just the loss of skipper Imrul Kayes (22) to Nasir Hossain.

Soumya Sarkar (17) returned to Nasir in the first ball of the second powerplay and from there, Mohammedan could never gather momentum to build on that good start.

Mahidul Islam Ankon (41), their top-scorer, was the third batter to go and Mahmudullah Riyad’s 18 off 42 balls only thwarted their progress.

In the end, 26 runs from Shuvagata Hom could only take them to 199 as they were bowled out with eight overs yet to go.

In reply, Prime Bank started steadily as Tamim and Mohammad Mithun (31) added 73 runs for the opening stand in 14.2 overs before the latter fell

to Shuvagata.

Both Nasir Hossain and Yasir Ali Chowdhury fell for just one, reducing Prime Bank to 83-3.

However, an unbeaten 117-run partnership between Tamim and Mushfiq took Prime Bank home with seven wickets in hand.

Tamim, in his innings of 109 runs, hit 12 boundaries.

Sk Jamal keep winning

Defending Champions Sheikh Jamal kept on their winning streak as they beat Brothers Union by 11 runs (DLS method) in a rain-affected match.

Batting first, a century for Fazle Mahmud (111) alongside skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan’s 66 allowed Sheikh Jamal to pile up 287-6 on board.

Mehedi Hasan and Saklain Sajib picked up three wickets each for Brothers.

The match was then interrupted due to rain, which saw Brothers’ target reduced to 209 in 29 overs. This saw them attack from the start as Sabbir Hossen (53) picked up a fifty but at one point they were reduced to 134-6.

However, Zahiduzzaman Khan kept them in the tie until the penultimate over as he scored a thumping 53 off 28 balls but it was not enough as the batter was dismissed by Shafiqul Islam to see Brothers bowled out for 195 with eight balls still to go.

Rupganj find fourth win

At BKSP, Legends of Rupganj secured a three-wicket win over Shinepukur Cricket Club to pick up their fourth win on the trot, climbing up to third in the points table. Batting first, Shinepukur could only muster 207 despite a century for Amite Hasan (104) and a fifty from Sazzadul Hoque Ripon (57).

Rupganj’s Indian recruit Chirag Jani picked up four wickets while skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza picked up three.

Due to rain, Rupganj’s target was then lowered to 168 runs from 36 overs.

In reply, it was Jani at the fore again as his 42 runs, alongside Irfan Sukkur’s 43 and Sabbir Rahman’s 36, took Rupganj home with three wickets and seven balls in hand.
