Anamul Haque’s second century of the ongoing 2023 Dhaka Premier League helped Abahani Limited beat Dhaka Leopards by 54 runs to go top of the table with their sixth consecutive win.
Abahani, riding on Anamul’s 107, posted 266-6. In reply, Leopards could only manage 212.
Abahani have 12 points from six matches, equal to Legends of Rupganj, but are ahead on net run rate.
Batting first at BKSP, Abahani had a great start as Anamul and Mohammad Naim added 148 runs for the opening stand, with both going past fifty.
Naim was sent back by Ariful Jony, while Anamul went on to pick up his second ton of the season, backing up his highest run-scorer campaign last year.
He was out on 107 off 126 balls, hitting seven fours and four sixes, but had handed Abahani a great platform to build on.
However, the Sky-Blues’ middle-order faltered as neither Afif Hossain (22) nor Mosaddek Hossain (21) could make it big as they could only post 266-6.
In reply, nobody from the Leopards batting order could play an innings well enough to chase that total down. Pinak Ghosh top-scored with 68 but that knock lacked impetus as he used up 96 balls.
In the end, Leopards were bowled out for 212. Left-arm spinner Rakibul Hasan and pacer Ripon Mondol picked up three wickets each.
Shinepukur thrash Agrani Bank
Shinepukur Cricket Club picked up a massive eight-wicket win over Agrani Bank Cricket Club in Narayanganj to climb up to eighth in the points table.
Batting first, Agrani Bank were rattled by the left-arm spin of Hasan Murad as the youngster picked up four wickets to see them bowled out for 161. The young spinner was aided by veteran Farhad Reza’s four wickets.
In reply, Shinepukur did not break any sweat as Mahfijul Islam Robin’s unbeaten 69, alongside Amite Hasan’s 36 and Priyank Panchal’s unbeaten 26, took them home with 103 balls and eight wickets in hand.
City Club clinch thriller
At BKSP, City Club clinched a one-wicket win over Brothers Union in a thriller that went down to the last over.
Batting first, courtesy of Saad Naseem’s 74, Brothers could muster up 219 before they were bowled out. Ifran Hossain and Asif Hasan picked up three wickets each for City Club.
In reply, the City Club chase seemed to be on track as they were on 137-4 but they lost four more wickets scoring the next 49 runs, meaning they still required 24 runs with only two wickets.
However, Rafsan Al Mahmud was seemingly taking them home as he, alongside Ifran, took them to require three runs in the last four balls.
Then, Rafsan was caught in the deep trying to end the match with a six, tilting the balance once again.
Ifran, though, held his nerve as he crashed the penultimate delivery of the innings through point for four to clinch a victory.
