Jake Lintott took five wickets to hand Mohammedan Sporting Club their fourth consecutive win in the Dhaka Premier League 2023 as they beat Brothers Union by 10 runs at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium in Narayanganj on Tuesday.

Mohammedan struggled at the beginning of the season as they lost four of their first five games and were at the bottom of the table despite having a star-studded squad. The only match they hadn’t lost was against Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club, which was abandoned due to rain.

Mohammedan has turned the tables from there after they beat second-placed Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club to turn back to winning ways. Since then, they have won all four matches to move up to the fifth position in the table. They have defeated Sheikh Jamal, Agrani Bank, City Club, and added Brothers Union to the streak on Tuesday.

Brothers Union skipper Nadif Chowdhury opted to field first after winning the toss. Nadif’s bowlers proved his decision correct with the ball as they bowled out Mohammedan for just 190, thanks to brilliant bowling spells from Anisul Islam and Mohor Sheikh, who picked up three wickets each. Rahatul Ferdous and Sabbir Hossain shared three wickets between them.

Only Mahmudullah Riyad and Shakib Al Hasan could stand up against the Brothers Union’s bowlers for Mohammedan as they scored 58 and 37 respectively. Lintott, coming to bat at number nine, added 28 runs to the board, helping them reach 190.

In reply, Brothers Union had kept their innings on the right track as they scored 106-3 runs by the 20th over.

Needing 85 off 30 overs with seven wickets in hand, things seemed pretty well for Brothers Union till Shakib bowled a maiden in the 21st over and Lintott picked up three wickets in the next.

In the first ball of the over, Lintott bowled the set batter Zahiduzzaman Khan (41). In the fourth ball, Arafat Sunny tried a pull but was caught at the deep backward square leg before sending back Brothers skipper Nadif without scoring a run, as he was caught by Shakib at the short third man.

Brothers Union’s scoreboard turned 106-6 from 106-3 within a span of six balls and they could not fight back from there as they were bowled out on 180.

Apart from Lintott’s fifer, Shakib took two wickets while Mehidy Hasan Miraz, Nazmul Islam Apu, and Shuvagata Hom picked one wicket each to seal the Brothers Union’s innings.

Raihan takes six in Dhaka Leopards’ first win

Left-arm spinner Raihan Uddin took six wickets as Dhaka Leopards beat Shinepukur Cricket Club by 76 runs at BKSP-4 Ground in Savar to register their first win in the DPL this season.

Winning the toss, Shinepukur opted to field first. Coming to bat, Dhaka Leopards put 222 runs on the board as Pinak Ghosh scored 66, while Sabbir Hossen scored 56.

For Shinepukur Cricket Club, skipper Farhad Reza took three wickets while Hasan Murad and Jishan Alam took two wickets each.

In reply, Shinepukur stumbled in the first over as they lost their opener Mahfijul Islam for a duck. Salauddin Shakil struck in the second over and picked the wicket of Jishan.

Shinepukur could not fight back from there as they lost wickets in a regular interval and eventually were bowled out for 146.

Raihan took six wickets while Moin Khan, Suhrawardy Shuvo, Shakil, and Ariful Jony each took one wicket for Dhaka Leopards.
