The final spot for the Super League phase of Dhaka Premier League is still up for grabs as the last round of the league will be played from today.
Gazi Group Cricketers, Brothers Union, and City Club are still in contention for the final spot as the first five spots have already been decided.
Teams that have already booked their seats for the Super League are - Abahani Limited, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club, Legends of Rupganj, Prime Bank Cricket Club, and Mohammedan Sporting Club.
Gazi Group are the favourites to go through as they are currently sixth with nine points, just behind Mohammedan, who won five consecutive matches after facing four losses to secure their place in the Super League.
Brothers Union and City Club won their last match to still be in contention and they are tied on points with both having eight points each. Brothers Union are just ahead of City Club with a comparatively better net run rate.
Gazi Group have the easiest fixture among the three as they will play relegation battlers Shinepukur Cricket Club in their final round, while City Club will play the table toppers, Abahani. Brothers Union will play Rupganj Tigers Cricket Club, who are ninth with seven points and are already out of the race for the Super League due to a big negative net run rate.
As things stand, Gazi Group need to avoid defeat to qualify for the Super League due to their positive net run rate. They have an NRR of 0.228 while Brothers Union and City Club’s NRR are -0.173 and -0.299 respectively. Brothers Union need to win their match and hope that Gazi Group lose to qualify.
The equation for City Club is more complicated compared to the other two. Not only do they have to beat the league toppers, but also, they have to hope both Gazi Group and Brothers Union lose.
If Gazi Group loses and Brothers Union and City Club win their matches, Brothers Union will advance as they are tied in points.
