An all-round performance from Nasir Hossain saw Prime Bank Cricket Club end the league stage of the ongoing 2023 Dhaka Premier League with a six-wicket win over Agrani Bank Cricket Club at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday.

Nasir, the Player of the Match, was good with the ball as he gave away only 20 runs in his overs during the Agrani Bank innings, where they posted 273-4.

In reply, Nasir’s unbeaten 112 off 98 balls, where he hit 12 fours and three sixes, took Prime Bank to the win with 20 balls in hand.

This win saw Prime Bank end the league stage with 14 points in fourth place.

Winning the toss, Prime Bank skipper Mohammad Mithun opted to field first and they found early inroads as Taijul Islam got rid of Azmir Ahmed (14) in the fourth over.

From there, Usman Khan added 103 runs with Shadman Islam as they both picked up fifties before the former had to depart for 53 before the latter was dismissed by Allis Al Islam for 62.

Another fifty from Jahurul Islam (58), alongside cameos from skipper Marshall Ayub (36* off 27 balls) and Abu Hider Rony (36* off 15) took Agrani Bank to 273-4.

In reply, Prime Bank lost youngster Prantik Nawrose Nabil (1) in the second over to Md Sharifullah but a 78-run stand between Shahadat Hossain (35) and Mithun (50) steadied their ship.

The duo’s dismissal in quick succession brought forth some problems for Prime Bank but they were revived by Nasir and Mushfiqur Rahim as they added 111 runs for the fourth wicket before the latter departed for 51.

Nasir went on to pick up his century off 93 balls and stayed unbeaten till the end, putting together a 64-run partnership with Yasir Ali Chowdhury to guide Prime Bank to victory.

Najmul ton ends City Club’s Super League hopes

An unbeaten century from Najmul Hossain Shanto saw Abahani end City Club’s hopes for a Super League spot as the Sky-Blues won by five wickets at BKSP.

City Club needed a win to stay in contention for the Super League as they were already a point behind sixth-place Gazi Group Cricketers.

In their must-win game, City Club were completely blown away by Abahani as four wickets from leg-spinner Rishad Hossain saw them bowled out for 172.

Only Tawfiq Khan Tushar could score a substantial 79 as none of their batters could manage to go beyond 30.

In reply, while Abahani batters also faltered as they lost five wickets in the small chase, Najmul’s unbeaten 102 saw them reach their target with 14.5 overs in hand.

With this win, Abahani ended the league stage with 20 points from 11 matches, losing only one game.

Sk Jamal thrash Legends of Rupganj

In the other game of the day, Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club thrashed Legends of Rupganj by eight wickets at BKSP.

Batting first, Legends of Rupganj were bowled out for 162 courtesy of a collective bowling effort from the Sheikh Jamal bowlers as six bowlers shared the wickets between them with Parvez Rasool picking up three.

In reply, a 141-run opening stand between Saif Hassan (78) and Robiul Islam Robi (58) sealed the fate of the game. After both of them were dismissed, Fazle Mahmud (24*) and Towhid Hridoy (1*) took them home with 21.5 overs in hand.

This win took Sheikh Jamal to 20 points, meaning they ended the league stage on second, while Rupganj ended third with 16 points.
