Abahani Limited and Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club ended the league stage of the ongoing Dhaka Premier League neck-to-neck at the top and they are the ones leading the individual lists too.
Among the top five run-scorers of the league stage, two are from Abahani, while two are from Sheikh Jamal, and the other is Gazi Group Cricketers’ Ravi Teja.
The bowling chart is topped by Sheikh Jamal’s Parvez Rasool, with Abahani’s Tanvir Hasan and Mohammad Saif Uddin at fourth and fifth. The other two are City Club’s Robiul Haque and Shineupukur Cricket Club’s Hasan Murad.
Naim scoring for fun
Abahani opener Mohammad Naim, following his axing from the national team, has been in sublime form this season. In the 11 innings this season, the left-handed batter has scored 719 runs, averaging 89.88 with a strike rate of 95.23. This season, he already has seven fifties and a century.
He is on track to break teammate Anamul Haque’s record last season, where the right-handed batter had scored 1138 runs. Naim, in the remaining part of the tournament, needs to score 319 runs more to go past that number.
Anamul is also in great form this season, although his form has dropped at the back end of the league stage. In his first sev-en innings, he had scored three hundreds and two fifties but since then has failed to reach a fifty even, thus ending the league stage on 644 runs, averaging 71.56 with a strike rate of 100.31.
At third place is Gazi Group’s Indian recruit Teja, who is the only other batter to go past 500 runs this year (508), with two fifties and centuries each, averaging 63.5.
The other two in the top five are the Sheikh Jamal duo of Fazle Mahmud and Saif Hassan. The middle-order batter Mahmud has scored 482 runs averaging 60.25, including two fifties and a hundred. Their opener Saif has scored the same number of runs with an inferior average of 43.82 but has four fifties and a century.
Rasool continues from last season
Indian cricketer Rasool was a key cog for Sheikh Jamal winning the title last year as he picked up 28 wickets and was the second-highest wicket-taker. This year, he has already picked up 23 wickets and has kept his side in the fight for the title with a strike rate of 25.35 and an economy of 4.1.
City Club pacer Robiul also has 23 wickets this season but will not add to his tally as they failed to book a place in the Super League.
Another one who will not play in the Super League is left-arm spinner Murad, who has 20 wickets so far, as his team Shinepukur ended in the relegation zone.
The other two in the top five wicket-takers are left-arm spinner Tanvir and pacer Saif, who have both picked up 18 wickets.
