Liton returns home from IPL

Liton Das has returned to Bangladesh from the Indian Premier League due to a family emergency, his franchise Kolkata Knight Riders informed on Friday.

“Liton Das has had to return to Bangladesh earlier today (Friday, 28 April) due to an urgent family medical emergency. Our wishes go out to him and his family to make it through this difficult time,” KKR said in a statement.

Liton was supposed to join the Bangladesh team in England directly from India for the Tigers’ upcoming three-match ODI series against Ireland but had to return home early.

This was the right-handed batter’s first outing in the IPL and he only managed to play one match, where he scored four runs. He is the only other Bangladeshi in the tournament this season besides Mustafizur Rahman, who is playing for Delhi Capitals, as Shakib Al Hasan, who was supposed to play for KKR, opted out of playing this season.

The Bangladesh team will leave for England on April 30, and whether Liton would fly with the team is unclear. Mustafiz will join the team directly in England from India.
