Bangladesh need to win their last match of the round-1 of AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup Qualifiers in Singapore when they face the hosts in their final Group D match at the Jalan Besar Stadium on Sunday.
Prior to their match against Singapore, Bangladesh made a flying start to the qualifiers as they humiliated Turkmenistan 6-0 in their opening match at the same venue on Wednesday.
Singapore also won their opening match 7-0 against Turkmenistan.
As things stand, anything but a win would mean elimination for Bangladesh as the hosts are ahead in goal difference. The winner of the match will qualify for the round-2 of the qualifiers where eight teams from eight groups will vie for the final spots in the AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup.
Bangladesh team manager Amirul Islam said the team is well prepared for the match.
“Our players have worked a lot, and they are well prepared. The thing is we played our first match Wednesday, and we had plenty of time to recover, do some specialised drills and make our plan,” he said.
Amirul added, “Of course, they (Singapore) are a strong team, but we’re hopeful. We watched their game, and our players know how they play. The team is in a good mood.”
Bangladesh team’s head trainer Golam Rabbani said Bangladesh will play for the win.
“Our players had enough time to go through the plans we made for the game. Of course, we will play for the win, no pressure,” he said.
He added, “In the last match we had lots of support from the diaspora here, we hope to have the same support in the next match.”
Ruma Akter, the skipper of the Bangladesh team, said, “Singapore is a good team, they have some quality technical players, but we will play our natural game and hopefully we will come out victorious.”
