Ireland tour in danger of TV blackout

Bangladesh’s three-match One-Day International series against Ireland in England is in danger of not being broadcast in Bangladesh as no broadcasters from the country have yet shown any interest in televising the tour.

Bangladesh Cricket Board CEO Nizamuddin Chowdhury told the media on Thursday that Cricket Ireland was yet to confirm who would broadcast the series in Bangladesh.

“We have asked Cricket Ireland about who will broadcast the series in Bangladesh. They could not confirm it. Maybe that is why they have not told us. If they can settle the matter, we will let you know as soon as we get to know the update,” he said.

The BCB CEO, though, opted to stay hopeful, “The broadcasting completely depends on the host board. We are hopeful that the people in Bangladesh will be able to watch the series on television. That is why we have been trying to contact them on this matter.”

The same problem came to light during Bangladesh’s tour of West Indies last year as only ICC TV broadcast the series in Bangladesh, with no TV channel showing interest. However, the situation was solved later and a couple of TV channels later broadcast the series.

When asked about ICC TV, Chowdhury said they only focused on TV broadcasts.

“It’s a different platform (ICC TV) and it’s another option. But we want to know which TV channel or media will broadcast the series. We will get to know,” the BCB CEO said.
