Bashundhara Kings got one more step closer to the Bangladesh Premier League title as they took a 10-point lead at the top thrashing Bangladesh Muktijoddha SKC Ltd 4-0 in their match at Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka on Friday.
With the win, Kings found their 13th win in the league in 14 games. They top the league with 40 points, 10 more than the second placed Abahani Limited.
Kings were playing in the front foot from the start, but Muktijoddha held tight in their defense as they gave no space to the Kings’ attackers. But Miguel Ferreira broke the deadlock in the 42nd minute of the game and the first half ended as Kings being 1-0 up.
Kings’ attacks got sharper in the second half as they scored three times past the Muktijoddha goalkeeper in the last 45 minutes. Kings’ Brazilian forward Gomes Dorielton made it 2-0 just seven minutes into the second half.
Dorielton scored his second in the 76th minute to make it 3—0 for the kings just before Miguel hit his second in the 80th minute.
In the other match of the day at Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla, Abahani thrashed Bangladesh Police FC 4-1.
Abahani dominated most part of the field with their high pressing and they gave Bangladesh Police no space to play the ball through. Their high pressing brought Abahani a penalty in the 36th minute and skipper Rafayel de Silva made no mistakes from the spot and brought the lead for his side in the 36th minute.
Zillur Rahman took one back to make it 1-1 for Bangladesh police just before the half time whistle.
After the break, Abahani went all-out as forward Foysal Fahim made it 2-1 in the 55th minute before midfielder Sohel Rana and Nigerian forward Emeka Ogbugh scored 65th minutes and 76th minute to make it 4-1 for Abahani.
