Abahani Limited got one step closer to the Dhaka Premier League title as they beat Legends of Rupganj by four wickets in their Super League match at BKSP-3 Ground on Sunday.
With this win, Abahani maintained their two-point lead on second-placed Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club at the top with only two games remaining.
Winning the toss, Legends of Rupganj opted to bat first and lost early wickets as they were down three wickets within the first ten overs scoring only 35 runs. From there, Irfan Sukkur played a patient knock of 52 runs off 79 balls to tackle the pressure.
Irfan’s struggle went in vain as Legends of Rupganj were bowled out for 230 in the 48th over. Chirag Jani and Jawad Royen contributed 50 and 46 runs, while skipper Mashrafe Bin Mortaza scored 26.
Abahani’s Ripon Mondol was the star of the show with four wickets and Khushdil Shah took two wickets while Nahidul Islam, Tanzim Hasan, and Tanvir Islam took one each for Abahani.
Chasing 231, Abahani reached the target comfortably with four wickets and 10 overs in hand, depending on Mahmudul Hasan Joy’s 67 and Mohammad Naim’s 56.
Earlier, Anamul Haque and Naim gave Abahani a good start as they put together a 72-run opening stand. Anamul scored 33 before getting out in the 11th over, while last game’s centurion, Afif Hossain, was out on 33.
For Legends, Muktar Ali took three wickets while skipper Mashrafe, Tanbir Hayder, and Abdul Halim took one each.
Sk Jamal keep up the pressure
Sheikh Jamal DC kept the pressure on table toppers Abahani as they beat Prime Bank Cricket Club by 13 runs in their Super League match at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.
Sheikh Jamal DC scored 276-6 in their innings after being sent to bat first depending on Saif Hasan’s 83 and skipper Nurul Hasan Sohan’s 53. Prime Bank’s Kashif Bhatt took three wickets.
Coming to chase 277, Prime Bank fell 13 runs short as they were bowled out for 263 despite Prantik Nawrose Nabil’s 75 and Shahadat Hossain Dipu’s 66. Al Amin scored another 36 while Sheikh Mahedi scored a quick 35 off just 22 balls.
But all of those was not enough as Sheikh Jamal’s Shafiqul Islam took three wickets while Parvez Rasool and Saif Hassan took two wickets each to ensure they got the win.
Mohammedan down Gazi Group
In Narayanganj, Mohammedan found a win after back-to-back losses in their first two Super League matches as they beat Gazi Group Cricketers by 20 runs.
Gazi Group won the toss and sent Mohammedan to bat first. Mohammedan scored 240-9 in their innings courtesy of Mahmudullah Riyad’s 71 and Abdul Majid’s 63. Ariful Haque scored 55 off 44 balls.
For Gazi Group, Tipu Sultan took three wickets while Anamul Haque and Jaynul Abedin took two each.
Coming to chase the total, Gazi Group were bowled out on 220. Meherob Hasan top-scored with 63 for Gazi Group.
Mohammedan’s Nazmul Apu, Enamul Haque, Mushfik Hasan, and Khaled Ahmed took two wickets each to ensure Gazi Group’s downfall.
In the other match in Savar, Shinepukur Cricket Club survived relegation as they beat Agrani Bank Cricket Club by 140 runs in their final relegation match, which ensured Agrani Bank and Dhaka Leopards were relegated from the division.
