Bangladesh’s three-match One-Day International series against Ireland in England is less than 48 hours away and the Tigers were somewhat disgruntled due to their lack of preparation because of inclement weather.
Bangladesh were supposed to play a warm-up game ahead of their series on Friday but it was abandoned due to rain.
On Sunday, their training was delayed due to a wet outfield, meaning Bangladesh could properly train for only one day ahead of the series.
While Bangladesh skipper Tamim Iqbal accepted that they had nothing to do about the weather, he expressed his frustration due to the lack of preparation the situation resulted in.
“We have no control over the weather. Maybe we could not prepare even better due to the weather. We have managed to train for just a day. We have tried our best to do so in that limited window. For the rest, we are preparing mentally,” he said on Sunday.
Tamim said they would arrive at the Essex County Ground, where the series will be played, today.
“Our only target is to win. Hopefully, we will go to the ground where we will play tomorrow (today). If permitted, we will train too,” the Bangladesh skipper said.
Despite his only target being winning, Tamim refused to use the word favourites, although Bangladesh have a favourable record against Ireland away from home.
“I don’t want to use the word favourites. We are here to play well and win. But you cannot say anything ahead of time in cricket. Ireland are used to these conditions and are a good team here. They will play their cricket and will not let us walk over them,” he explained why.
The Tigers are eyeing this series as part of their preparations for the World Cup later this year but Tamim refused to name a spot to anybody.
“The youngsters have made great use of their opportunities. But we cannot guarantee a spot to anyone. We will play this series, and then there will be different conditions in another. Among all these, the best team will go to the World Cup,” the Bangladesh skipper said.
