Bangladesh Premier League leaders Bashundhara Kings and second-placed Abahani Limited were both stunned on Friday as they both lost their BPL games as the tournament enters its final stages.

Kings lost their game 2-1 to Bangladesh Police Football Club at the Rafiq Uddin Bhuiyan Stadium in Mymensingh, while Abahani lost to Chittagong Abahani 3-2 at Bir Flight Lieutenant Matiur Rahman Stadium in Munshiganj.

As both teams lost, their positions and point differences remained unchanged as Kings are still at the top with 40 points and Abahani on second with 30 points after the 15th matchday.

In their match against Police FC, Bashundhara were the dominant side and created more chances but Police’s goalkeeper Dinaj Hosen Jubed’s brilliancy kept the harm at bay.

Police FC’s Edward Morillo scored a brilliant goal from a counter-attack in the 32nd minute to make it 1-0.

Kings’ attacks were much more composed in the second half as they needed a goal to avoid defeat. Robson de Silva put up a beautiful pass just three minutes into the second half to set Rakib Hossain for the equaliser.

Police FC hardly got a chance to attack in the second half as they were busy defending half, but in the 68th minute, forward Morillo received a through pass from the midfield and kept his cool to dribble past two defenders and trick the goalie to curl the ball into the net.

Kings could not take one back and the game ended in Police’s favour.

With the win, Police FC have moved up to fifth ahead of Mohammedan SC with 20 points from 15 matches.

In the other match, Abahani suffered a 3-2 defeat to Chittagong Abahani.

The first half saw four goals scored. Chittagong Abahani’s Ojukwu David Ifegwa struck twice to bring the lead. Mohammad Ekbal Scored the third while Abahani’s Syrian defender Mohamamd Yousef took one back in the 18th minute and the half time whistle was blown Abahani being 3-1 down.

Yousef scored his second in the 64th minute to make it 3-2 and the game ended as it was.
