Bangladesh Test captain Shakib Al Hasan is likely to miss their upcoming one-off Test against Afghanistan in June due to a finger injury.
Shakib injured his right index finger during the second One-Day International of their three-match series against Ireland in England while trying to take a catch, and it ruled him out for their final ODI against the Irish.
Scans later revealed a fracture and Bangladesh Cricket Board physio Bayjedul Islam Khan informed that such an injury is likely to take six weeks to heal.
“Shakib hurt the tip of his right index finger while attempting a catch yesterday in the second ODI. An X-ray today confirmed a fracture on the base of the index finger. Such injuries usually take around six weeks to heal,” he said in a BCB statement.
Afghanistan will come to Bangladesh in the middle of June, and the only Test against them is reported to start on June 14.
If that is the case, Bangladesh will be without their captain in their Test, and if he is indeed unavailable, Liton Das is likely to lead the Tigers in that match.
Shakib, despite being ruled out of the third ODI, is with the team and handed out caps to Rony Talukdar and Mrittunjoy Chowdhury, who debuted in the final ODI as Bangladesh’s 141st and 142nd ODI player.
