Bangladesh One-Day International skipper Tamim Iqbal picked up his first fifty in 10 matches on Sunday as they beat Ireland by five runs to win the series 2-0.
After the match, Tamim, thanking the fans who arrived in numbers at Chelmsford, England throughout the series to support the team, said that this was probably his final game in England.
“I have probably just played my last game in England, especially in international cricket. We don’t have any fixtures here in the next three-four years. So, probably this is my last match here. I enjoyed it very much,” he said.
The only Bangladeshi to hit a century at Lord’s added, “I was hoping for something good here. Because when I came here (England) for the first time, it was something special for me. This was the end for me and I wanted to do something special. Unfortunately, I wasn’t being able to. At last, I could score some runs to keep nice memories.”
Tamim has played 25 innings in England in his career, scoring 987 runs, including five fifties and three centuries.
The Bangladesh skipper came into this series without a fifty in a long time but managed to pick up one on Sunday, his first in 10 innings.
However, he was disappointed he could not prolong his innings beyond the 69 he scored.
“I was not in my best form in the last two-three series. But I always had the belief that I was only one match away from returning to form. I would have been happier if I could have made my fifty bigger,” Tamim said.
