Bashundhara Kings are now one win away from winning the Bangladesh Premier League2022-23 title for the third time in a row as they defeated Chattogram Abahani 2-0 at the Bashundhara Sports Complex on Friday.
Kings had the ball under control in most parts of the game and pressed high, with Chittagong Abahani unable to cope with the press and continuous attacks through the flanks, giving away a penalty in the 18th minute of the game.
Miguel Ferreira made no mistakes from the spot and Kings were up 1-0.
Chittagong Abahani’s Mohammad Forhad Mia was sent off for a foul in the first half of the match.
Down to 10 men, Chittagong Abahani couldn’t hold Kings as they scored another in the second half through Dorielton to take the game away from the visitors.
After the win, Kings now tops the points table with 43 points after the 16th matchday, 10 points ahead of the second-placed Abahani Limited, meaning another win would seal the title for them.
At the Shaheed Dhirendranath Dutta Stadium in Cumilla, Abahani beat Sheikh Russel KC 3-1.
Daniel Colendres scored in the seventh minute of the game to take Abahani ahead before Emeka Ogbough scored another in the 33rd minute to make the score 2-0 before the half time.
Emeka scored his second and the third for his team in the 77th minute. Sheikh Russel’s Dipak Roy got one back just 5 minutes before the final whistle and it was too late for them to make a comeback.
With the win, Abahani secured their second position in the league as they have earned 33 points from 16 matches.
