Former Bangladesh captain and current Bangladesh Cricket Board Director Naimur Rahman Durjoy will continue as the president of the Cricketers’ Welfare Association of Bangladesh (CWAB) as there were no other interested candidates.
Debbrata Paul will also continue as the general secretary.
The decision was made at the Annual General Meeting of CWAB at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
In 2019, the reformation of CWAB was part of the agenda of the cricketers’ protest. However, according to Naimur, the players were unwilling to take charge as they are busy with their careers.
“Players probably did not take part in the election maybe because they thought they will play for even longer. We have asked them to come and take the responsibility. We can’t force anybody to do so. Maybe they want to focus on the sport. I think retired international cricketers or who are still playing first-class cricket but are not in the national team, could come forward,” Naimur said.
He added, “I would have been happy if fresh blood would arrive. The door was open for them. If someone comes even now, we will try to hand them the responsibility.”
