Emi Martinez coming to Dhaka

World Cup winner Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez is set to visit Bangladesh for a day’s trip on July 3.

He had his schedule set for a two-day trip to Kolkata, India, but the Argentine himself showed interest in coming to Dhaka.

Kolkata-based sports entrepreneur Satadru Dutta is organising the Argentine’s trip to Kolkata. He had also influenced bringing two of the football’s greats Pele and Maradona to Kolkata. Last December, he was successful in bringing Brazil’s World Cup-winning captain Cafu there.

Mr Dutta, in a Facebook post, said, “Emi Martinez has a special place in his heart for Bangladesh as they have tremendous Argentina fan following. So, I am planning a one-day Dhaka trip for Martinez. Bangladesh, are you ready!”

Martinez is going to Kolkata for a two days trip, he will stay there for the 4th and 5th of July, Mr. Dutta is trying to set a schedule for the 3rd of June to bring him to Dhaka. He is said to be negotiating terms with various Dhaka-based organizations.

The Business Post spoke to Shamsuddin Haider Dalim, Head of Corporate Communications of Bkash, the only regional sponsor of the Argentine Football Association, regarding Martinez’s trip to Dhaka.

The official informed that they did not know anything about the trip as this was a personal event, rather than one of the AFA.
