Choton announces resignation

Bangladesh Women’s Football Team head coach Golam Rabbani Choton has announced his resignation from the role.

The coach, under whose tutelage Bangladesh Women’s Team won their first SAFF Championship last year, said that he will leave his role after this month ends. The coach is yet to hand his resignation to the Bangladesh Football Federation.

“I will not coach the national team in any tournament anymore. I will provide the BFF with an official resignation soon. You can say that I am here for this month. I will not be in charge of the Women’s Team from next month,” he told the media.

Under Choton’s guidance, Bangladesh have not just been successful at the senior level but also at the age level. Under him, Bangladesh were the runners-up in the U18 SAFF Championship in 2022 and were the Champions of the 2021 SAFF U19 Championship.

He cited mental pressure behind his resignation.

“You can’t work with mental unrest. You have to work all day long and still, I have to hear many things. You can’t work this way. The pressure is increasing every day. Still, I have to hear that this is not working, that is not working. I can’t take this mental stress,” Choton said.

“I have done it for a long time. It’s a lot of pressure. I have a family life, I have friends. I can’t give time to anyone. On the other side, the pressure is increasing on the Women’s Team. I think it’s been enough and I want to move away. That is why I don’t want to stay as the Women’s Team coach,” he told the media.
