Defending champions Bashundhara Kings retained their title to win it for the fourth successive time as they came out victorious against Sheikh Russel KC in a 10-goal frenzy at the Bashundhara Sports Complex in Dhaka on Friday.

Kings’ Brazilian forward Dorielton Gomes Nascimento scored four to win his side their fourth title in a row with three matches in hand.

Dori brought the lead for Kings just six minutes into the game with a beautiful one-touch finish from a precise through pass from fellow Brazilian Robson Robinho.

Conceding early in the game, Sheikh Russel switched their play style as they went on the front foot with continuous attacks down the flanks. Their offensive play finally paid off as Mohammed Sujon Biswas brought Sheikh Russel back into the game with a beautiful finish from Nigerian forward Kenneth Ngwoke’s cross.

Ngwoke forced his way into the Kings’ half through the right flank dribbling past a couple of defenders to feed the ball into the box for Sujon, who was positioned in a perfect place and shot the ball into the net.

As the game was leveled, both teams were looking to break the opposition’s defense. Dipok Roy, in the 38th minute, took Sheikh Russel into the lead with a beautiful right-footed curler from outside of the box as Kings maintained a high line, and Kings were

down 2-1.

As the half-time whistle neared, Kings pushed further as they needed to equalise the scores before half-time.

Robson Robinho finally equalized the score in the stoppage time before Sheikh Morsalin struck another a minute later to go to the half-time break leading 3-2.

The second half saw another five goals as Dori scored a stunner just five minutes into the second half before completing his hat-trick in the 65th minute and Kings were up 5-2.

Just three minutes after Dori’s third goal, Ngwoke took one back for Shiekh Russel and the game was once again in no one’s favour till the 77th minute when Dori nailed the sixth for the Kings.

Ngwoke’s second goal in the 90th minute could only reduce the goal difference as the game ended 6-4 in Kings’ favour.

Abahani-Mohammedan settle for draw

The other match of the day between arch-rivals Abahani Limited and Mohammedan Sporting Club ended in a draw at the Shaheed Dhirendranath Datta Stadium in Cumilla.

Souleymane Diabate took Mohammedan into the lead in the added time of the first half from the penalty spot after Abahani defender Yousef Mohammed fouled him inside the

penalty area.

The Black and Whites, being 1-0 up, had their chances to seal the game in their favour in the second half, but substitute Shahriar Emon missed a couple of chances which cost them three points from their arch-rivals.

In the 83rd minute, Abahani forward Eleta Kingsley, who was subbed in a few minutes before, equalised the scores from the penalty spot after Mohammedan defender Emon fouled Abahani’s Costa Rican forward Daniel Colindres inside the penalty area.

Kingsley’s goal was the last action of the match and the teams settled for a point each.
