Following a brilliant series against Ireland last month, Bangladesh batter Najmul Hossain Shanto has been nominated for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month for May.
The other two men’s cricketers nominated for the award are Pakistan skipper Babar Azam and Ireland’s Harry Tector.
Najmul followed up on his good performances at home against England and Ireland in the One-Day International series as he scored 196 runs in three matches.
In the first match against the Irish, he scored 44. Then, in the second match, where Bangladesh needed to chase down 320 in 45 overs, Najmul picked up his maiden century as he scored a brilliant 117 off 83 balls to set up the win for Bangladesh.
In the third match, he scored 35 with the bat and then picked up a wicket to help Bangladesh to the series victory and win the Player of the Series award.
Ireland’s Tector was nominated for his 206 runs in the ODI series against Bangladesh, while Pakistan’s Babar scored a fifty and a century against New Zealand at home, helping his side win the five-match series 4-1.
For the Women’s Player of the Month award, Sri Lankan duo Chamari Athapaththu and Harshitha Madavi were nominated alongside Thailand’s Thipatcha Putthawong.
