Shakib starts fitness work

Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan started working on his fitness on Thursday at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka.

Shakib is currently out with a right index finger injury, which will see him miss the upcoming Test against Afghanistan starting on June 14.

Shakib had earlier surprised everyone by visiting the national team’s practice on Tuesday.

On Thursday, he arrived at the SBNCS in the morning as the Tigers had training scheduled from 9 AM to 12 PM.

After arriving, Shakib talked with the curator Gamini de Silva, and then to the coaches and the players.

He congratulated Mushfik Hasan, his Mohammedan teammate who has been called up to the national team for the first time, and headed towards the gym.

“Shakib bhai said congrats Mushfik, carry on,” the pacer said afterwards.

Following his gym session, the all-rounder returned to the pitch where he was seen running for around 30 minutes. In this period, the all-rounder jogged and also completed some mini-sprints.

Shakib was supposed to have an X-Ray done on his injured finger, and the reports have come out well, Bangladesh Cricket Board’s Chief Physician Debashish Chowdhury informed The Business Post.

While Shakib is out for the Test, he is set to return for the three-match One-Day International and two-match Twenty20 International series against Afghanistan, which will be held in July.
