Bangladesh win Bronze in Asia Cup archery

Bangladesh men’s recurve archery team finally won a medal in the World Archery Stage-3 Asia Cup downing Australia in the tiebreaker in Singapore on Saturday.

Sagor Islam, Hakim Ahmed, and Ramkrishna Saha brought the bronze medal in the men’s category for Bangladesh on the final day of the tournament while all other teams from Bangladesh returned empty-handed.

Bangladesh clinched the bronze medal defeating Australia in the tiebreaker after both sides won two sets each in their match.

Bangladesh won the first set 54-53, and Australia came back in the second set to win the set 55-53. Bangladesh again went ahead in the third set by 55-49 points. Australia equalised winning the fourth set to take the match to the tiebreakers.

In the tiebreaker, the Bangladeshi archers produces two 10 and a nine to score 29 points, while Australia scored three nines to manage 27. That meant that Bangladesh won the tiebreaker, thus clinching the bronze medal.

Earlier, Bangladesh lost to China in the semi-finals by 6-2 while Australia lost their semi-final match against India by 6-0, resulting in the teams fighting for third place.

China eventually won the gold medal in the tournament downing India in the final.

Earlier on Friday, Bangladesh’s Dia Siddiqui and Sagor Islam were thrashed 6-2 in the quarter-finals in the mixed category.
