Mujibur Rahman Jony’s beautiful one-touch stunner saw Bangladesh beat Cambodia 1-0 in a FIFA Tier-1 -International friendly match in Phnom Penh, the capital of Cambodia on Thursday.

Jony took Bangladesh ahead in the 24th minute when he met a cross from Foysal Fahim from the right wing and finished past the Cambodian goalkeeper with a side-footed volley.

In the match, Cambodia enjoyed a better ball position, but the men in red and green outplayed them in the counter-attacks. Bangladesh started the match in a slow and cautious manner but geared up with the time.

Cambodia played positional football and tried to force into the Bangladeshi box through the middle with small triangular passes from the midfield, but all their attacks were shut down by Tariq Kazi and Mohammad Sohel Rana.

Bangladesh on the other hand let the hosting side enjoy the ball position while they planned for quick counter-attacks down the wings through Mohammad Suman Reza and Jony.

Anisur Rahman kept Bangladesh’s lead intact as he denied Choun Chanchav in a one vs one situation.

In the 60th minute, Suman made a solo run through the right wing and dribbled past two defenders to send in a beautiful cross toward Jony, but the Cambodian goalkeeper went out of his line to punch the ball out of the

danger area.

As the game neared the full-time whistle, Cambodia became more aggressive in their play as they needed a goal to avoid defeat in front of a thirty-thousand home crowd. Kouch-Sokumpheak and Lim Pisoth had their chances to equalize the scores, but the Bangladeshi goalie denied them each time. In the 68th minute, Pisoth received a beautiful cross from Yeu Muslim, and the Bangladeshi goalkeeper was beaten for the first time in the match, but he headed the

ball out wide.

In the 90+4 minutes, Orn Chanpolin crossed a dangerous ball into the box, but Anisur punched the ball out, and it was the last action of the match.

Bangladesh, however, saw defender Tariq Kazi sent off, meaning he will be out of their opening game in the SAFF Championship 2023 against Lebanon.
